It's an easy assumption to think that all performers are paid for a Super Bowl halftime performance, but that is NOT the case.

The NFL covers production costs, but they do not pay the performers.

The idea is that the halftime performance gives them the opportunity to promote their music, tours, and upcoming projects. And in turn, that leads to massive sales for them. Which in the past, it always has.
