Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson: Friendship and Fighting Words

If you watch television, chances are high that you have seen at least one episode of 'The Voice' in its 15 seasons of broadcasting. However, Monday night’s episode was a new level of comedy as Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton battled it out over country crooner, Mikele Buck.

The 39-year-old, West Virginia native made his way to ‘The Voice’ stage by way of Greenville, NC and stunned judges with his cover of “She Used To Be Mine” by Brooks and Dunn. His performance was raw, rugged, and reminiscent of the evergreen country flavor that perked the ears of Shelton and Clarkson.

Clarkson thought that she had a strategy to steal the country singer from Shelton, however, the “I Lived It” singer proved to be a seasoned pro. They both slammed the red button, turning their chairs at the same time. This is where instigator, Adam Levine jumped in with some helpful advice for Clarkson and the battle and belly laughs really began.

Shelton and Clarkson tried to persuade Buck to choose wisely based on their previous track records, musical tastes, and industry connections. Shelton may have slipped up in his sales pitch when he reminded Buck of some Greenville, NC fake facts.

"That's where they make Wranglers, did you know that?" he said.

"They make Wranglers in Greenville, South Carolina," Buck corrected. Shelton looked favorably shocked and highly amused.

Ultimately, Buck chose to join Clarkson. Clarkson squealed with excitement and was awestruck that she had won the battle. We aren’t entirely sure that she didn’t also have a leg up on her competition because of her team swag. That red and black rhinestone jacket is pretty “dope.”
