The project, which was recorded last year, serves as a companion to her recently released Christmas album, My Gift, and features songs that Underwood "grew up singing in church."
"Both of those projects were bucket list projects for me," Underwood recently told People of My Gift and My Savior. "With everything I do, I just want to be positive. And we had the Christmas album, which was so near and dear to my heart."
"Last year was a tough year for everybody, and I think just wanting to be positive in this world and sing these songs that bring me so much joy, hopefully, others can be like that as well and these songs can bring others joy," she continued. "That goes back with everything that I do ... I just want to do positive things."
Underwood first announced My Savior in an Instagram post shared on Christmas Day. "I am very blessed and very lucky because I have basically been living in Christmas-land all of 2020, which was a great place to be for this year," she said in the video. "I've been making music that I love and been just giving my heart to the Lord with My Gift, which you guys have been so wonderful to support. Lots of love and support and I have felt it every step of the way, so thank you so much for that."
Underwood continued on to explain that she "basically didn't want all of that to end when I was making this music, I felt like my soul was in such a great place, I wanted to keep making music like the music off of My Gift. So I am here to give you guys a little gift right now and announce that I did that. I went ahead and made some more music. I made an album called My Savior which is hopefully just a little companion to My Gift."
My Savior is expected to be released around Easter. Stay tuned for more details to come!
