The Santa Fe District Attorney has announced charges against Alec Baldwin related to the 2021 shooting on the Rust movie set which killed cinematographer Halayna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
Alec Baldwin, who fired the fatal shot, is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. The production's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed who was in charge of handling the gun, is also charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Both could face a mandatory five years in prison if convicted. Dave Halls, the first assistant director on the set who allegedly handed the gun to Baldwin, agreed to a plea deal and is charged with "negligent use of a deadly weapon.”
Baldwin has long denied any wrongdoing, saying that he was simply following instructions on the set and claims that Dave Hall handed him the weapon and said it was a "cold" gun, meaning that it was unloaded and safe. Neither Baldwin nor Gutierrez-Reed have responded to the charges yet.
