Sometimes you need a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Maybe you want to move away from big city living or perhaps you simply want to see what interesting small towns are out there and learn more about their fascinating histories, dine at hole-in-the-wall restaurants, take a leisurely stroll to see the natural splendor or have some fun at unique attractions. Fortunately, there are plenty such hidden gems found around the country that are worth visiting on a day trip or weekend getaway.
HGTV searched around the country for "charming" hamlets and villages to compile a list of the "best kept secret" of the best small town in every state. According to the site, the top choice for Colorado is Mancos.
Here's what HGTV had to say about this quaint spot:
"The spirit of the West is alive and well in Mancos, Colorado, where ranching is still a way of life. This community of about 1,600 sits just east of the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park, so it's a great base for nature lovers and adventurers who like to ride horses, bike and hike. More than 150 artists and other creatives live in the area; their galleries line historic Main Street in the creative district. Book lovers, take note: This area was home to the late Western author, Louis L'Amour."
