Dan + Shay Star's Wife Mourns Loss Of 'Precious,' 'Kind' Stepfather

Dan + Shay star Dan Smyers and his wife, Abby Smyers, are mourning the loss of her stepfather.

Abby shared a heartfelt tribute to her stepfather, Robert, in an Instagram post on Tuesday (February 10). Her post included family photos taken with Robert over the years, including one of the stepfather and stepdaughter sharing a hug on the dance floor at her wedding in 2017. Other snapshots showed Amy, Dan and her family on holidays, traveling, backstage at Dan + Shay shows, and more. Abby wrote in her caption:

“My precious, patient, generous, kind and soft stepfather, Robert, left us unexpectedly and way too soon. My family is absolutely gutted and irrevocably changed. The last couple of weeks have been horribly sad and challenging but we know more than anything that Robert would want us to live and live fully. Live to see the world. I know that he wanted to do that so much more. Live to love. He loved all of us so deeply. Live for a cold beer or glass of red wine at sunset. He had the sweetest affinity for sunsets and he sent us off with one I will absolutely never forget. Live to swing a golf club. I will try to learn, Robert. Live for each other. My mom, little brother and I have lost the irreplaceable but we will step up for one another in his honor. We miss you so much already, Robert. Thank you for the way you embraced and loved me like your own. You were the very best man and this is all tremendously unfair. I ask that anyone who reads this holds my mom and Sam in their hearts and prayers and takes the time to see the sunset tonight.”
