TMSG: Supercross Champion Helps St. Jude Patient Take First Steps

Before 9-year-old Gabe Sharp of Illinois got sick in 2017, he rode dirt bikes. His mom Andrea says that it was more than just a love of dirt-biking, it was Gabe's whole life.

That was until a brain cancer diagnosis and surgery that followed left him paralyzed. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital saved his life, and now physical and occupational therapies are helping him relearn basic skills. However, it was a friendship with Gabe's hero Ryan Dungey that sparked the light back in Gabe. Dungey is a four-time Monster Energy AMA Supercross champion and he visited St. Jude in September 2018 for a tour and autograph signing. Gabe and his mom missed the signing, but got to catch up with Dungey right before he left.

The two bonded over motorcycle racing and became fast friends. Dungey was right by Gabe's side when Gabe was ready to take his first assisted steps without a wheelchair this past September.
