Starting JULY 16th, the National Suicide Prevention Line is changing. The once 11-digit national suicide prevention line will now be shortened to just three digits: 9-8-8.
When people call or text #988, they will be connected to trained counselors with the existing lifeline network.
While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022. The 11-digit number will remain in service as well.
