INVENTING ANNA: Rachel Williams Sues Netflix

Netflix is facing a defamation lawsuit over it's wildly popular Inventing Anna limited series.

Rachel Williams, portrayed by Katie Lowes in the series, says it wrongly portrayed her as "a greedy, snobbish, disloyal, dishonest, cowardly, manipulative and opportunistic person." Some of the things in the show she says were false: criticizing Anna's friend Neff Davis, freeloading off of Anna, dropping Anna as a friend when she couldn't pay for things and lying to friends about helping police arrest Anna.

The show was a dramatization of the rise and fall of fake socialite Anna Sorokin (played by Julia Garner), and was produced by Shonda Rimes' Shondaland company. It made no bones about playing fast and loose with the facts, most notably fictionalizing real-life New York magazine writer Jessica Pressler with Anna Chlumsky's character Vivian Kent.

After spending two years in prison for fraud, Anna Sorokin is currently in ICE detention awaiting a deportation appeal.
