Woman Loses $160,000 In Dierks Bentley Twitter Scam

Tis the season… for online scamming.

A South Carolina woman and Dierks Bentley fan is reportedly out a considerable sum of money after she was scammed on Twitter by someone posing as the “What Was I Thinking” singer.

According to The Post and Courier, the incident was initially reported by the victim’s sister who recognized the scam. She told police that her sister had been sending cashier’s checks and gift cards to the person claiming to be Bentley for about two years. The estimated sum of loss is $160,000.

The Rock Hill police took the report and will be passing the case along to the federal authorities for further investigation. Officials have asked the public to be aware of scammers, especially during the holidays, and to report any suspicious activity.

Dierks Bentley’s verified Twitter account has more than 2.6 million followers.

Dierks joins Cody Alan for Radio Live on December 11th. Find your station at www.cmtcody.com.
