Christmas Comet To Zip Through Sky

A "Christmas comet" will appear in the evening sky throughout the rest of the year but won’t be back for 80,000 years.

The comet, commonly referred to as comet Leonard, should be visible with a backyard telescope or binoculars and may be visible to the naked eye under very clear and dark observing conditions.

Tonight (Friday) will be a good opportunity to spot the comet as it will appear directly below Venus after sunset.

The coming nights will be the only chance to see comet Leonard as it will not swing past the Earth again for another 80,000 years.
